Grenada County Build Better Together 2040 Plan

The input to this Plan confirmed that Grenada County leaders and residents are already thinking in general
about all the elements that will make Grenada a more complete community as it grows, from more shopping
and restaurant options to cultural and entertainment offerings. In this respect, this Recreation and Amenities
section builds on various shared objectives in the Economic Development section. With Grenada County poised
to experience a rate of growth and transition of land unprecedented in its history, it is more important than ever
to maintain and enhance existing parks, increase the quantity and quality of developed recreational acreage,
and capitalize on natural features and assets of the local landscape as growth and development proceed. This
will benefit not only current residents but also those who will make Grenada County their home in the decades
            ahead.

            Key Issues and Considerations

Through the Grenada County Today and Plan Direction phases of the comprehensive planning effort, a set of 10
Top Strategic Priorities was identified based on interactions with County and City elected officials and other
area leaders, input from the Plan Advisory Committee, other results from varied stakeholder engagement
activities, and the plan consultant’s own input. Recognizing that Housing Supply and Options was the consensus
“Job 1” item facing Grenada County in the near term, one other Strategic Priority is most relevant to this
Recreation and Amenities portion of the Grenada County 2040 Plan:
                9. Amenities and “Things to Do.” As in
                  every smaller community across the
                  nation, Grenada County residents
want a more livable place, with
more options for filling their leisure
                  time. Along with enhancing the
                  area’s public parks and recreation
                  facilities, Grenada can continue to
build on its revived Downtown; its
                  “Eat, Meet and Greet” culture
                  combining food, drink and
                  events/entertainment; and its desire
to expand offerings for families and
youth. The Grenada County Popular annual Jubilee event in Downtown Grenada.
                  community must also continue to
focus on ways to upgrade its image and aesthetics for both residents and visitors.
