Driveways and Access
In order to enhance the pedestrian-orientation of residential
neighborhoods, the visual and physical impacts of cars should
be minimized. Parking access should also minimize any potential
pedestrian/vehicular conflicts.
5.13 Minimize the visual impact of a driveway or other
paved surfaces in a front yard.
a. Where possible, provide vehicular access to a site from
an alley.
b. Limit the width of a driveway at the curb.
c. Do not use a landscaped front yard area for parking.
d. In a multi-family development, minimize the visibility
from the street of shared parking areas.
e. Design a driveway to align with the natural grade of the
land, utilizing gentle curves and avoiding running a road
along the slope.
