INCENTIVES & BENEFITS
Description
Effective preservation programs manage heritage resources through protective
tools and through incentives for property owners to designate. Effective
incentives and benefits encourage property owners to follow appropriate
rehabilitation procedures, stimulate investment in heritage resources, and assist
those with limited budgets. Incentives and benefits can include:
A Financial or technical assistance;
A Tax or regulatory relief such as streamlined review;
A Special flexibility in building codes.

A Additional financial support is needed for heritage preservation.

Promote financial incentives and other benefits that stimulate investment in
historic properties throughout Plano.
Recommendations
A Coordinate the existing heritage tax exemption and grant programs with
other city programs, such as the Great Update Rebate.
A Create a façade improvement grant program to encourage rehabilitation
of historic storefronts downtown.
A Encourage property owners to seek additional funding sources and
economic incentive programs for maintenance and restoration.
A Inform property owners of available tax incentives by developing
outreach materials and hosting workshops.
