STATE OF TEXAS
The Texas Historical Commission (THC) is the state agency for historic
preservation. Staff of the THC works with citizens and organizations to preserve
Texas through architectural, archaeological, and cultural landmarks. The
organization also operates a variety of programs throughout the state that
focus on cemeteries, heritage tourism, highways, museums, town squares, and
numerous other topics. The City of Plano works closely with the THC through a
variety of programs including the Certified Local Government (CLG) program.
The THC also maintains a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark (RTHL) and subject
marker program, each of which recognize properties that are historically and

National Register listing honors a property by recognizing its importance to the
community, state, or nation. Listing provides protection from harm by federal or
state activity, but does not place restrictions on the actions of property owners.
It also makes properties eligible for federal and state tax credits for certain
types of rehabilitation work. Additional organizations that support preservation
efforts at the national level include:
A National Register of Historic Places (NRHP)
A National Trust for Historic Preservation (NTHP)
