1966-2018: PRESERVATION IN PLANO
NATIONAL HISTORIC
PRESERVATION ACT
This act established historic preservation at the
national level, creating the National Register
of Historic Places and National Historic
Landmarks. (1966)
City Council approves the first
heritage-related tax exemption
to the Ammie Wilson House.
THE ANTIQUITIES
CODE OF TEXAS (1969)
The Texas Antiquities Code
established the Texas Antiquities HISTORICAL ZONING
Committee, renamed in 1973 to COMMITTEE APPOINTED (1978)
the Texas Historical Commission. to “recommend changes in the ordinances,
policies, and programs of the City to effectively
encourage an appropriate use of historical
zoning in Plano.”

AMMIE WILSON HOUSE RESTORATION (1973)
The City of Plano committed support to the Collin
County Historical Society’s endeavor to restore the
Ammie Wilson House. The house would eventually
become Plano’s first local historic landmark.
The City of Plano leases the
land around the Ammie
Wilson House to the Plano
Heritage Association
(now known as the Heritage
Farmstead Association) for a

BICENTENNIAL
The Bicentennial spurred new interest in
history and historic properties, resulting in
a surge of local governments establishing
preservation commissions. (1976)
