HERITAGE PRESERVATION TIMELINE

INTRODUCTION
Beginning with the adoption of its first Historic Landmark Preservation Ordinance in 1979, Plano’s heritage preservation
program has grown tremendously over the past 40 years. Designations of the city’s heritage resources, revisions to the
preservation ordinance, the creation of multiple preservation plans, and the establishment of financial incentives for
heritage resource property owners are just some of the program’s many accomplishments. The following pages illustrate
the history of the program, highlighting many of these achievements. The items included on the timeline are categorized
into six themes, which are described below.
