            6.28  Convey as closely as possible the character of historic           Double-Hung Window

                   a.  Use genuine muntins on windows located within key historic
                       walls and other highly visible places.

                   b.  Locate snap-on muntins in secondary locations. They should
                       still have a similar depth and shadow line to their original
                       counterparts.
                   c.  Do not use strips of material located between panes of glass to
                       simulate muntins.


            ENERGY CONSERVATION IN WINDOWS
            Historic windows can be repaired by reglazing and also patching and splicing
            wood elements such as the muntins, frame, sill and casing. Older windows
            were built with well-seasoned wood that is superior to most new material.
            Repair and weather-stripping or insulation of the original elements is more
            energy efficient, less expensive, and sound preservation practice.

            6.29  Enhance the energy efficiency of an existing historic
                   window, rather than replace it.

                   a.  Install an insulated window shade.
