              The style is common throughout the country. It is defined by the
              presence of Victorian decorative detailing on simple folk house
              forms, which are often much less elaborated than the Victorian
              styles they attempt to mimic. The details are typically inspired
              by either Italianate or Queen Anne styles. Primary areas for the
              application of this detailing are the porch and cornice line.

              Identifying features of the Folk Victorian style include:
                1.  Porches with spindlework detailing (turned spindles and lace-
                   like spandrels) or flat, jigsaw cut trim appended to National
                   Folk (post-railroad) house forms
                2.  Symmetrical façade (except gable-front-and-wing subtype)
                3.  Cornice-line brackets
