         Primary Expression Elements
         The design options described and illustrated below may be used individually, or in combination, to meet the intent of the design guidelines
         for building expression. Note that other creative building expression strategies may also be appropriate.


         vertical Expression Elements

         vertical Expression Line
         Expression lines project sufficiently
         from the face of a building wall to cast
         a distinct shadow. In this particular
         example, vertical expression lines are
         seen in the form of attached columns,
         which run the length of the building.














         Wall notch

         A wall notch is a vertical expression line
         created by notching a building wall for its
         full height. In this example the central bay
         is inset from the flanking walls.










         Wall offset
         A wall offset is  similar to an increased
         setback, but with a larger dimension. It
         often provides a forecourt along part of
         the front of a building.
