Shown on the Potential Trail/Pathway Opportunities Map are possible locations for adding dedicated on-
street lanes, off-street paths or dedicated trails for a variety of users, whether walking, jogging or riding a bike.
Depending on the location, these routes can provide new connections between neighborhoods, parks, schools,
downtown, shopping areas and other local destinations. The newest nationwide benchmarking report published
by the National Recreation and Park Association (2021 NRPA Agency Performance Review) shows that among
U.S. cities with 20,000 or fewer residents (the City of Grenada was between 12,000 and 13,000 in Census 2020),
the median amount of local recreational trail mileage was three miles. Therefore, the extent of mileage
reflected on the Opportunities Map is clearly ambitious but suggests a possible framework for the longer-term
objective of building toward a Grenada area trails and pathways network, including for longer-distance
recreational cycling and hikes to/from Grenada Lake and along the area's more rural byways.
