Shutters
Shutters are integral, functional components of many historic
residential buildings. They serve as accents, provide security,
and offer protection against heat and storms. Louvered or slatted
shutters were often placed on window openings, and sometimes
door openings. The shutters were designed to be operable to
cover the window when needed. Shutters often included louvres,
which were also operable.
4.30 Preserve and repair existing wood shutters.

Materials that do not appear similar to the original in texture, depth
and design are unacceptable. These often include:
• Lightweight plastic
Incorporate operable shutters,
