 Providing alternative routes and travel options.
o For emergency vehicle access and in case of road closures.
o To disperse traffic across the roadway network versus concentrating it on a limited number of area
roads.
 Creating appropriate spacing for future signalized intersections.
o Also coordinating with future land use for areas that will generate the highest number of outbound
and inbound trips.
 Preserving rights-of-way for future new roadway alignments and widening of existing roadways based on a
long-range plan.
o Also planning for a hierarchy of roadways for appropriate right-of-way widths and traffic-carrying
capacities.

Accommodating Pedestrian and Bicycle Circulation along with Vehicles

Existing highways like U.S. 51 north of Downtown Grenada have ample capacity to accommodate
more vehicular traffic in the future, but the circulation needs and safety of those walking and biking
must also be addressed as Grenada County adds more population and traffic.
