Grenada County Build Better Together 2040 Plan

Survey respondents were then asked about their degree of agreement or disagreement with Grenada County
government potentially taking on new responsibilities in three key areas. The accompanying charts illustrate the
results, with majority support on all three items:
Potential County Involvement in Subdivision Regulation
 61% either agree or somewhat agree with
potential County role in subdivision regulation.
 57% either agree or somewhat agree with
potential County adoption of first-time zoning.
 73% either agree or somewhat agree with
County potentially providing public parks at
                 some point.
However, respondents also had the option to
choose “I would need more information to decide,”
which 26% did on the subdivision item, 27% did on
the first-time zoning item, and 16% did on the parks
item. The roughly one-quarter level of uncertainty
on the first two regulatory items is typical. It
underscores the need for educational efforts and Potential County Adoption of First-Time Zoning
interaction with the development community and
public when considering any type of new
            development regulation activity, which involves
technical matters plus individuals and businesses
wondering how they may be affected.

The Plan anticipates plenty of lead time for such
education and outreach efforts ahead of the
subdivision item, which is shown as a Mid Term
action (4-9 years). However, the zoning item is
shown as Near Term (0-3 years) given the potential
for more immediate land use conflicts that could
emerge between residential areas and various types
of non-residential development as seen in other
rapid-growth communities. The parks item is shown Potential County Involvement in Providing Public Parks
as Long Term (10+ years) as it will take some time
for new population clusters to emerge outside the
Grenada city limits that would warrant potential
park planning and construction by the County, for
which the County would need time to prepare
(including for ongoing parks maintenance once new
            parks are developed).
Finally, the survey provided for open-ended
comments, all of which touched on issues and
actions already covered in the Plan or related
initiatives that are already in motion in Grenada
